Law-Enforcement Request Policy
Last updated 2026-10-09
Scope
This policy explains how MAVYR handles requests from courts, law-enforcement authorities and other competent authorities. It concerns information the service actually holds. It is not a promise to disregard valid legal obligations or a claim that all account information is anonymous.
What may be available
Depending on the account and the applicable retention period, records may include account identifiers, device and public-key records, room membership, timing information, encrypted messages and limited security records. The Data Inventory and Retention Matrix describe the categories.
Message bodies are end-to-end encrypted. MAVYR does not hold a universal conversation-decryption key or a plaintext copy of your Recovery Key. An authority’s request does not change those technical facts.
Request verification
The operator checks the issuing authority, authenticity, jurisdiction, legal basis, scope and deadline before disclosing data. Requests must identify the relevant accounts or records and the information sought. An informal request alone is not sufficient authority for disclosure.
Where a request is unclear or exceeds its legal basis, clarification or an available legal remedy is sought. Emergency requests are assessed under the legal rules applicable to that emergency; the word “emergency” is not a substitute for a lawful basis.
Preserving existing information
When a legally effective preservation obligation applies, routine deletion of the covered existing data is suspended as needed. Preservation keeps data available while the legal process proceeds; it does not itself authorize giving the data to the requester.
Preservation is limited to the records and period covered by the obligation. Data is not destroyed to defeat a valid order. The service cannot preserve information that was already deleted or produce message keys it never held.
Disclosure and notification
For a valid disclosure requirement, MAVYR provides only the available information within its scope, using a verified recipient and an appropriate secure transfer. The request, decision, access and disclosure are recorded in a restricted case record.
Affected users are informed where the law permits and requires it. A lawful restriction on notification is respected. This policy does not promise notice in every case.
Contact and formal service
Requests should be addressed to Christopher Brückner, Schwalbenstraße 3, 85232 Feldgeding, Germany, using the legally prescribed service channel where one applies. The planned address impressum@mavyr.org is not yet a verified receiving mailbox and should not be relied upon for a deadline.
This page does not designate an electronic-evidence representative or replace statutory service requirements. European production or preservation orders are handled under the rules that apply to the order and the service.
